Joanne Hill Joanne Hill

When I left school I went to Cumbria College of Art and Design in Carlisle and studied design. This then led me to attain a degree in Three Dimensional Design at Manchester Metropolitan University some years ago but I am largely self-taught as an artist. It has taken some time to discover my direction within my personal work after years of being commissioned and focusing on what the paying customer wanted and expected of me- I kept a scrap book of all my work to date and sat down one day and asked myself a few basic questions whilst flicking through it. The questions were; what did I enjoy doing and why?. What mood have I created in my favourite works and how? The answers paid consideration to scale, medium, subject, composition, technique etc. I made some surprising discoveries. Having come up with the answers I feel a lot more focused and confident about what I want to create and realise that it’s just as important what you leave out of a scene as what you leave in. I like my paintings and drawings to look as such so my technique isn’t as rigorous as photorealism but my subjects are always instantly recognisable and detailed to a certain extent. My inspiration originates from the arrangement of colour and content of drama and movement. Thank you for taking an interest in me and my work and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it..............
