Ian Carr Ian Carr

I have been photographing the underbelly of the urban environment for eight years. More recently I have begun to produce works of digital art - mainly nudes and landscapes - but also purely abstract works. In the main, my urban photgraphy is of those things that are missed when we walk about the urban environment; things we dismiss as ugly, deralict or acts of vandalism, but things that have a beauty nonetheless, though it is a beauty that requires us to really look. When we do, we find all sorts of strange sights and juxtapositions, and all these give us a narrative that speaks of the city and its occupants. My nudes, both male and female, are an attempt to find the essential beauty in the figure before me, something unique to the moment as well as the person; often this leads towards some kind of abstraction or reduction in the image, whether it is a photographic image or a work of digital art.
