I was born in Scotland though I was too young to remember when. Mother said that I was the result of a good night out at the legion. I left school with a first in truancy. I re-entered education when the teacher wasn't looking graduating four book-ends later and again another four after that - one more degree and I’ll be a pop group. My childhood heroes were roustabouts, coal miners, women potato pickers, and folk brave enough to scratch their behinds in a busy street. The sword and sandal icons such as Steve Reeves, Reg Park and Jock Mahoney fed my boyhood fantasies until Candice Bergen came along to spoon feed my adolescent daydreams. Adolescence itself was all chest expanders, bell-bottoms, splashed on vanity and routine failure with the girls. Adulthood settled me successfully with a wife while unsettling me at the same time with HP at APR 34% for the next seven years. Nobody told me that APR did not mean April! The arrival of our daughter in 1976 completed the family portrait.

Favourite quote: "The man who ate the boiled ham raw"

Other interests include current affairs, fun fairs, book fairs and cheap fares. Perpetually favourite group: The Beatles. Most cherished books: The Good Soldier Svejk by Jaroslav Hasek and Maw Broon's Cookbook. Poet: Lewis Carroll. Poem: Jabberwocky Some of my favourite films: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Casablanca, Marty, The Ghost and Mrs Muir, Amarcord, The Searchers, Spartacus, Separate Tables, Conspiracy, Nuts in May, Stalag 17, Time Bandits, Wuthering Heights, The Isle, Darby O'Gill and the Little People, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Angel-A, and the first six Marx Brothers films

I’ve had a number of exhibitions including a one man display and y’know, I believed the guy enjoyed it. My work has appeared in Mississippi Crow and also found its way into a Russian college text book along with an essay I wrote to accompany the painting.
