As a young talented artist, Sam has always pushed the boundaries in terms of her choice of materials, finding new ways to manipulate and control often uncontrollable, notoriously difficult paints. This choice bombards her with technical problems, leaving her no choice at times than to abort or change a piece of work at the last second due to room temperatures stopping her medium drying at the correct speed, even stopping it from drying at all.

Her painting style varies from totally spontaneous to completely controlled, almost obsessive. She is keen to experiment with composition and style and has settled on thick sheets of wood as her preferred canvas.
