Mark Cope Mark Cope

My practice, is un-complicated and simple. I have principles and concepts that are built into myself and my work. Having a working class background has certainly influenced the way I make and view art. I believe it should be accesible, and availiable. It should be professional and of quality. Too often, I believe that art is put out of reach and upon a ridiculas pedestool. It is my aim, at least for my own practice, to make my work grounded, accessible and availiable.  I myself have read some very confussing statements and concepts, about other artists practices.I have no idea what is being said, and I cant understand how this is supportive to the work. I believe this confusses and de-values the actual work itself, alienating the viewer. The viewer is a very important part of the painting practice.I dont believe this should be the most important part of the painting, but it should be taken into consideration. My practice is like a journey, from start to finish, I have made decisions and thought conciously about the final product. In order to get the best results possible. I aim to be honest, direct, and as simple and un-complicated as possible. In a world of rules, regulations, restrictions, everything is often over-complicated. Lets therefore keep art, simple, something to enjoy. Something to look at. Something to make you think. www.myspace.com/markcopeart
