Keir Williamson Keir Williamson

Keir Williamson was born in Leicester in 1945. At school I developed an interest in drawing, but early post war secondary modern education in an industrial city made it seem less likely for me to achieve a career in the creative world. As a teenager I was given a camera which opened a new door for me to develop a wider interest in the creative arts. I progressed through photography and drawing until I enrolled on a foundation course at Leicester Southfield College under the tuition of Rod Pountney. The ambiguity between abstract and representation in my work can be traced back to my studies under Rod Pountney, in particular the method of drawing from the model and dialogue with colour. This led to a fine art degree at Coventry University. Throughout there has been a continuity, both in my own development and in respect to the out side influences of other artists whose work has helped to form me. After gaining my degree I turned to painting and settled in St.Ives Cornwall.
