Jon Mazu Jon Mazu

I am a native Ohioan working as a commercial advertising photographer for the past 25 years, doing industrial, catalogue, brochures and food photography. Originally I wanted to be an art director, but after going through art school, my first job was at a photo studio. I was fascinated with photography so I decided this is what I wanted to do. As far as competitions and exhibitions, I have several best of shows and first place awards like Ohio magazine, American photography annual, Photographers Forum and American Business Communicators Annual Report Competition and state wide competition awards. I have had one man and two man shows in Ohio. I enjoy landscape photography and shoot with a 4x5 camera. B&W photography is what I really like. Unlike color work, you have more latitude to make an abstract photo. My B&W composites are made from two or more negatives to make one print. Im not concerned with reality. I want a photo with impact and one that has a surreal look. All prints are made in a conventional darkroom, with no computer enhancement. I first make a template of how I want the final print to look. Then I test each negative for density and contrast. After my test prints, I make a composite test print for blending and position of all the elements. It usually takes two to three hours before I am happy with the final print. All prints are made on fiberbase papers.
