Georges Kalmetti
It is with a Franciscan monk that he started to learn painting at a very early age: "When I was ten years old, I tried to put painting aside to play sports, but my father prevented me from doing so and today I am very grateful ".
After a period of studies at the Beaux – Arts and the University of Paris Faculty of Plastic Arts, Georges Kalmetti started to exhibit and quickly caught the eye of Nelly Marez-Darley, a prominent painter from the Parisian School. In 1999, collectors began to show an interest in his work, described variously as figures hidden under a veil of mystery, bearing witness to the enigma of time . . . complex compositions in which characters resemble each other despite their distinctive features and shapes, evoking a feeling of spiritual depth.
Drawing upon the influences of such painters as Veronese and Titian, the value of Kalmetti’s work lies not only in its technical mastery, but also in the profundity of the questions it provokes. It is Kalmetti’s constant search for the new, while refusing to break bridges with tradition, that attracts collectors to his art.
Since 2000, he has been living and working in Canada.
