Close to the Frozen Borderline' by Matthew Stradling

In this exhibition, Matthew brings together a series of paintings, both old and new, which weave a web of images and ideas from the interconnected themes of Desire, Beauty, Gender- identity, Intimacy, Narcissism, Loneliness and Mortality.
The paintings exude an air of cool sensuality and smoldering passion, mingling the Beautiful with the Repulsive, in a style that, although contemporary, could be that of an Old Master.
This year Matthew celebrates 20 years as a practicing artist. His work has been exhibited internationally, with solo shows in London, Paris, New York and Ottawa. He has produced paintings for Derek Jarman, Lindsay Kemp, Andrew Logan, Marc Almond and Siouxsie Sioux. Recently one of his paintings was reproduced 20 meters high on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg for a production of the opera Tosca.
