Short bio and statement of Keith M Warwick: (You can email me on warwickabstract@yahoo.co.uk) I was born in Islington (London) in 1957 and gradually acquired an appreciation for art and literature in all its forms. My family moved to the countryside after I was born and until the age of nine I grew up surrounded by farm life, and the freedom and beauty of the open countryside. My feet are set firmly between the rural and the city - my affection for London as great as my love for the pastoral and the visual sensations of natures flora and fauna. Inspired by the likes of Rembrandt, Constable, Epstein, Picasso, Frink, Bacon, Hepworth, Sutherland, Moore, Kline, Still, Turner, Rothko, Mould and Pollack, etc., my creative spark springs mainly from Abstract Expressionism with added inspiration from the amazing photographs of the Hubble Telescope. In my early twenties I attended art classes run by the American artist Brigid Marlin, ( http://brigid-marlin.tripod.com/ )who was a strong influence. She encouraged me to draw every day, but alas, I went off in another direction and found it difficult to keep her advice. Although now I feel things have gone full circle, and I am now more than ready and able to follow my artistic path. My past experience includes time spent in the travel industry and government research work, as well as sales and marketing experience. I revel in the free expression of colour, form and texture, and I am always acutely aware of the impact of colour on the human mind and mood. Colour as emotion excites me. It inspires me. I love colour and like to play with it - use it. I feel colour - that’s the way I am. My compulsion to paint brings the freedom to express my creativity, which is heightened by the immediacy and quickening of wet acrylic paint on stretched canvas. I get immeasurable satisfaction from working with a medium that gives me what I need to translate my thoughts, emotions, feelings and visions onto a naked primed surface. Other Interests: I am a member of the Anglia Abstract Artists group (founder and co-ordinator), British Mensa, the International High IQ Society of New York, the Slow Food Society, and the artists community Wet Canvas, where I exhibit to other professional abstract artists for feedback. I am also an occasional travel writer and lyricist, and my hobbies include literature, gastronomy, the cinema, theatre, architecture, history and current affairs. I am also a life-long committed cosmopolitan, and human rights campaigner (past experience includes Amnesty Internationals Urgent Action Group and as a trained volunteer Samaritan).
