Georgina Vinsun

My work is inspired by cloud formations, colour and light. My main focus is the sky and its cloud formations as these are a constant source of inspiration for me as a painter. I do not seek to paint what I see or photograph in a photo-realistic manner, my technique is too spontaneous and expressive for that style of working. Using the paint I work to re-create a sense of space, of hulking cloud-like forms and layers, with the works ever changing up until completion in much the same way as the sky is always changing its colour and the shapes found within. Colour is immensely important in this respect as it can evoke all kinds of images, sensations and memories in the viewer; I also find that the scale of the work can be instrumental in allowing this to happen and like to work on a larger scale where possible. Paintings on a large scale can sometimes be rather overpowering yet enveloping, allowing the viewer to almost become a part of the piece, if only for a moment.
