Topolski's Chronicles

Topolski's Chronicles are on display and for sale in the gallery. But it's quite difficult to explain what they are, because they are so many different things in the same time. When a set was sold on auction, they were described like that:"Topolski's Chronicle was generally published fortnightly, for circulation amongst the one thousand subscribers, which entailed a worldwide delivery to schools, universities and museums as well as individuals. It covered international events, in the manner of the war reportage generated by Topolski as a war artist with the Allied Forces in the Second World War. It was produced by Topolski on his own printing press at the studio, between 1953 and 1967, continuing into the 1970s as a centre-spread within Quarto magazine, an intellectual and arts-based magazine edited by Richard Boston.'
I would describe them as magazines, except there are no words, the events are not commented, they are shown. And people are free to interpret the facts. And every image is drawn on the spot and each issue is an original, practical, functional work of art.
